Heritage Work Camp Stara Zagora 2008

camp for cultural heritage education

In 2008 the Balkan Heritage Foundation organized a cultural heritage voluntary workcamp supporting the excavations and the site maintenance of Stara Zagora, ancient Avgusta Traiana. The volunteers assisted rescue excavations of an Early Iron Age site conducted by the Regional History Museum. They helped with finds processing, digitizing archive cards and photographic films, editing archaeological texts & raising public awareness on the neglected condition of the Town’s Roman forum and Europe’s oldest copper mines by cleaning them near Stara Zagora.
