The Balkan Heritage Foundation is Launching a Fundraising Campaign for Research Equipment
Dear Friends, Colleagues and Partners,
Since 2014, the Balkan Heritage Foundation has been integrating advanced photo documentation techniques into our field school projects. We believe this not only offers our students relevant technical knowledge but also helps to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of the archaeological sites we work on around the Balkans.
Creating 3D models of artefacts and buildings will enable the creation of virtual museums and tours for the archaeological sites thus enhancing artefacts’ and buildings’ study, preservation and exposure to a wider public and will address multiple research goals. The first 3D rendering project of this kind began in 2015 at the site in Stobi, Republic of Macedonia. Some of the results may now be viewed at our Sketchfab profile.
In order to expand this work at our field school sites at Pistiros, Tell Yunatsite, Apollonia Pontica and some medieval churches and chapels, we need to purchase by May 2016 equipment which is outside of our current budget capacity.
The equipment needed and its associated costs:
€ 807/ $900 – 30ft Telescopic Carbon Fibre Photography Mast and Tripod
€ 5380/ $6000 – Leica RX1250TC 1200 System
€ 3360/ $3750 – Leica Total Station
€ 9547/ $10,650 TOTAL
