Presentation of the book “Tell Yunatsite – Archaeological Studies and Perspectives”
On April 27, 2023, in the main hall of the National Archaeological Institute with Museum (NAIM-BAS), the Balkan Heritage Foundation, Dr.Yavor Boyadzhiev and Dr. Kamen Boyadzhiev had the pleasure to officially present the book “Tell Yunatsite – Archaeological Studies and Perspectives”. This bilingual (Bulgarian and English) open-access ebook presents the results from the long-term archaeological investigations of Tell Yunatsite – a landmark site for European prehistory. The publication is the result of a long-term collaboration between the Foundation and the two authors, but it would not have been possible without the support of the Ministry of Culture, which funded the excavations, and the Regional History Museum – Pazardzhik. Read more about the book below:
Tell Yunatsite is one of the most famous and continuously excavated prehistoric sites in Bulgaria. The book covers the history of research until 2000, which was focused on the Bronze Age layers and later periods. The focus of this publication is on the work of the two authors during the last 20 years in the Chalcolithic layers of the settlement. During those more recent excavations, it was discovered that in the 5th millennium BCE, the mound was only the topmost fortified part of a large settlement. The uncovered features – a fortification wall and a moat, as well as buildings with intricate floor plans, spread over an area of over 100 sq. m., and the multitude and variety of artifacts attest to the highly developed material and spiritual culture of the Chalcolithic people in Upper Thrace.
The ebook is open access and available for download on our website.
