Balkan Heritage Foundation Begins New Master’s Program with New Bulgarian University

In the Fall semester of 2020 the Balkan Heritage Foundation in partnership with New Bulgarian University launched the new Master’s program in Balkan and Eastern Mediterranean Archaeology (BEMA). The two year program is taught in English by an outstanding international faculty from Bulgaria, Great Britain, the United States, Denmark and other countries. It offers a new path for graduate students to further their knowledge of the history and culture of the Balkans and includes the possibility of a continued PhD degree. Theoretical courses are taught online while practical courses are taught during the summer at New Bulgarian university in Sofia and during  field schools chosen from the Balkan Heritage Field School portfolio. Thus the program combines the flexibility of an online degree with real-world field experience.

The program is a continuation of the long successful collaboration between New Bulgarian University – one of the leading academic centers in Southeast Europe and the Balkan Heritage Foundation – a non-governmental, non-profit organization whose archaeological field schools have promoted and preserved the cultural heritage of the region since 2008.
