Our friend and alumnus Robert Goodwin and his wife Julie Kiernan have donated 4,000 USD to the BHFS excavation site at Tell Yunatsite, Bulgaria through their newly established company Stone & Compass – Balkan Ecotourism and Cultural Retreat. This is the second donation they have made to the site. The purpose of the donation is to support the 2016 excavation of this exceptional archaeological site where the Balkan Heritage Field School project has been taking place since 2013. Tell Yunatsite is of outstanding interest for European archaeology. As one of the oldest proto-urban settlements in Europe, dating back to the 5th millennium BCE, it is a cultural treasure that offers an incredible opportunity to explore Europe’s earliest civilization.
The Balkan Heritage Foundation is a Bulgarian public, non-profit, non-governmental organization. It was established in 2008 by a team of a cross-institutional program implementing archaeological field schools other cultural resource management projects since 2003.
The Balkan Heritage Foundation’s mission is to support the protection, conservation, management and promotion of cultural, and historical (both tangible and intangible) heritage of Europe as a precondition for sustainable development of the region.
