Third Conservation Phase of  the Theodosian Palace in Stobi, North Macedonia, Completed

On November 28, 2025, the second season (third phase) of the conservation project of the Late Antique Theodosian Palace in Stobi, North Macedonia, was completed. The project is being conducted by the Balkan Heritage Foundation and NI Stobi in cooperation with Skillington Workshop, with the support of the J.M. Kaplan Fund and the American Institute for Roman Culture. Within the framework of this project, most of the walls and mosaics of the building have been conserved. The residence is one of the most representative ancient buildings in the territory of North Macedonia. The team of British, Macedonian and Bulgarian conservator‑restorers preserved the authentic remains in their entirety, without additional restoration interventions, using only traditional materials and techniques.

The conservation of the “Dionysus” mosaic – one of the most exquisite Roman mosaics in North Macedonia, discovered in 2023 during the initial phase of the project – is scheduled for 2026.
